On Sept. 14, Montevideo American Legion Post 59 conducted an American Flag Disposition Ceremony in which American flags that have become torn or tattered and are otherwise unserviceable are taken out of service and properly destroyed. The officers of the club conducted the ceremony with the help of Boy Scouts from local Boy Scout Troop 259 under the leadership of Scoutmaster Jeff Eickhoff and Assistant Scout Master Jim Ruether. Scouts Tucker Sulflow (left) and Bailey Eickhoff burned a flag while Legion members (back, from left) Marv Garbe, Tom Anderson, Jack Knothe, Ken Hill, J.R. Burrow, Maurice Erickson, and Don Lofthus stood at attention. Also participating were Boy Scouts Cameron Thissen, Tyler Ruether, Jonathon Hoogeveen, and Isaac Sulflow. (Submitted photo)
