After losing the first two sets of Tuesday’s home match against Paynesville, it appeared the Montevideo volleyball team was headed for its fourth straight defeat.

But the Thunder Hawks didn’t quit and they outlasted the Bulldogs in five sets to get their first victory of the season.

The T-Hawks stayed alive by taking the third set 25-22.

An ace serve by Kelsey Amborn gave Montevideo the fourth set 25-20.

Montevideo shot out to a 5-1 lead in the final set behind the serving of Amborn. An ace serve by Haley Kubista gave Montevideo a 12-7 lead, and Kendyl Anderson’s tip found the open court to give Montevideo the final game 15-13 and the match.

“They’ve just kept plugging away,” said Montevideo coach Joanna Magnuson. “It feels good to get a win now.”
