Morris Area remained in a first-place tie with Lac qui Parle Valley in the West Central Conference South standings by defeating Montevideo 54-22 here Friday.

After the Thunder Hawks tied the score midway through the first quarter on an 8-yard pass from Brett Bergeson to Colton Vien, the Tigers scored three straight touchdowns.

Montevideo pulled within 27-14 at halftime on an 86-yard kickoff return by Joe Bednar.

Montevideo’s final touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard pass from backup quarterback Eric Johnson to Bednar.

The Tigers piled up 499 yards of total offense, including 389 yards rushing.

Logan Ackerman ran for 110 yards for Montevideo — his third 100-yard rushing game of the season.

The T-Hawks closed out the regular season Wednesday against BOLD after the American-News went to press.

The Section 3AAA playoffs begin Tuesday. Montevideo is currently ranked seventh out of nine teams. Barring wins by both Watertown-Mayer and Worthington in their final games Wednesday, the T-Hawks would finish seventh and gain a spot in the playoffs on the road in the first round. The most likely scenario would have Montevideo playing at Glencoe-Silver Lake.
