Absentee ballots for district residents or family members who wish to vote absentee on the Nov. 8 operating levy referendum are available in the Superintendent’s Office at the Montevideo Middle School between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The reasons for voting absentee are:
• absence from precinct
• illness or disability
• religious discipline or observance of religious holiday
• service as an election judge in another precinct
• eligible emergency declared by the governor or quarantine declared by federal or state government

If college students want to vote on the operating levy, they must:
• request an absentee ballot application (by mail or phone), or
• one can be sent to them, or
• they may fill it out when they are home from college

The students will need to list their legal residence as their home address in Montevideo.

After the completed application is received in the Superintendent’s Office, the ballot will be mailed to them. Parents cannot pick up the ballot for the student.

If students are not registered, registration materials will also be mailed along with the ballot.

Please take note: If students are registered to vote in an election where they are attending college, they will need to re-register to be able to vote in this election.

Absentee voters are advised to plan on the process taking two weeks.
