Montevideo American-News - Montevideo, MN
  • An interesting experience

  • I often get to do a lot of interesting things working for the Montevideo American-News, but this last week I was presented with something I thought was a litle out of the ordinary and interesting for that reason.
A woman living in California, Mary (Lofthus) Loomis, formerly of Montevieo, wrote me asking if I could take a photo of the home her grandmother once owned many years ago. Mary is working on a book of her memoires, and she thought a photo of a house she once played at would be a nice addition.
Mary graduated from Montevideo High School in 1939, which should give a good indication of how long ago this house must have first been in her grandmother’s posession, and how many changes must have been made over the years.
The current owner was happy to allow me to take the photos, and Mary is happy to have them, but now she has a question I’m not able to answer. Some members of the community might know a lot more about than I do.
She mentioned a place called Carlton Lake that was south of Montevideo where “adventurous boys would go swimming (without their mother’s knowledge),”?as Mary put it.
Does anyone know about this lake or the condition of it?
