The 2012 racing season got under way on Friday night at Fiesta City Speedway with a 68-car field, including many new vehicles.
Corey Nelson led all 18 laps to win the $1,000 first-place money in the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Nelson had to hold off Jeff Provinzino in the closing laps to get the win.
The first feature of the evening was the Pure Stock feature. Jesse Timm took the lead from Shane Kruger after two laps were completed. With four laps to go, one of the transformers blew and the race was temporarily interrupted. After some electrical work, the racing continued. Timm held on to get his first win of the season.
Justin Schneider led all 10 laps of the WISSOTA Mod IV feature for his first ever win at Fiesta City Speedway.
Mike Jans held off Ben Albertson in the final laps to win the WISSOTA Street Stock feature.
Jason Cook took the lead to start the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. As the field came to take the white flag, Ross Dixon got alongside of Cook. Dixon got in front of Cook to take the lead as they went into turn 3. As Cook was trying to get back around Dixon, the two cars made contact with each other. Cook was charged for spinning out Dixon and Dixon got the win in his first visit to Fiesta City Speedway.
Defending track champion Brian Haben took the lead to start the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Jason Vejtruba took the lead from Haben with four laps to go. After a late caution flag with two laps to go, Vejtruba got high in turns 1 and 2, and Haben took advantage and went on to get the win.
Next week is Take A Kid Racing night, sponsored by Southwest Driving School, Tom Saue Insurance and Montevideo Publishing. Race Time is 7 p.m.
