Morris/Chokio-Alberta spoiled Montevideo’s hopes of winning a share of the West Central Conference South baseball title by beating the Thunder?Hawks 3-1 here on Tuesday.
BOLD won the title outright by routing Yellow Medicine East 23-3 on Tuesday in Granite Falls.
Montevideo tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Joe Bednar doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on an error.
That would be the only run the T-Hawks could muster against the Tigers’ Sam Mattson and Jacob Torgerson, who combined on a three-hitter.
Jordan Thompson pitched four scoreless innings in relief for Montevideo, giving up just one hit and no walks, while striking out four.
Montevideo lost 6-0 to New Ulm on Friday. Kyle TeBeest had two of Montevideo’s three hits.
The T-Hawks downed Pipestone 7-1 on Monday, with Colton Vien going 4-for-4 at the plate. Austin Hoehne had three hits and Tanner Lindemann hit safely twice.
Montevideo will take a record of 12-7 into the Section 3AA tournament. The Thunder Hawks will host Redwood Valley at 11 a.m. on Saturday. If the T-Hawks win, they would play again at 3:30 p.m. The tournament continues on?May 30.
