In the final game of the regular season, Morris/Chokio-Alberta cost the Montevideo baseball team a share of the West Central Conference South championship. On Tuesday, the Tigers were the Thunder Hawks’ nemesis again, eliminating Montevideo from the Section 3AA?tournament.
Montevideo 10, Redwood Valley 0
Montevideo broke open a scoreless game with an eight-run third inning to defeat Redwood Valley 10-0 in six innings in the opening round of the Section 3AA tournament here on Saturday.
The Thunder Hawks sent 11 hitters to the plate in the third inning, getting three hits and capitalizing on three Cardinals errors. The big hit in the inning was Austin Hoehne’s two-run double. Jordan Thompson and Kyle TeBeest also had hits in the inning.
That would be more than enough runs for Colton Vien, who gave up only one hit — a single in the fourth inning — while walking none and striking out nine.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta scored four runs in the first inning and held on to defeat Montevideo 9-5 here on Tuesday and oust the Thunder Hawks from the tournament. The format for the tournament is single elimination in the first two rounds.
Both teams struggled defensively, combining for 14 errors, eight by Montevideo.
Montevideo cut the lead to 5-2 in the third inning, but left the bases loaded. Brett Bergeson had an RBI single in the inning, one of four hits on the day for the senior shortstop.
Montevideo drew within 6-4 in the fourth inning, with Bergeson driving in a run with a triple.
The Tigers, who won their 10th straight game, padded their lead to 9-5 by scoring twice in the sixth inning.
The Thunder Hawks finished the season with a record of 13-8.
