A total of 102 scholarships, totalling $136,150, were awarded to 64 Montevideo High School graduating seniors at the 24th annual Scholarship Tea at the Fine Arts Center last Wedensday.


A total of 102 scholarships, totalling $136,150, were awarded to 64 Montevideo High School graduating seniors at the 24th annual Scholarship Tea at the Fine Arts Center last Wedensday.

That brings the total dollar amount, since the late Claude Dziuk started the scholarship program 53 years ago, to $1,979,300. A?total of 1,950 Montevideo students have received financial assistance for college over the years.

When Dziuk started the scholarship program in 1959, four $100 scholarships were presented.

The $10,000 Bertha Bonn Memorial Scholarship, the largest single scholarship awarded, went to Jessica Belt. Belt, one of seven class valedictorians, plans to attend Luther College to pursue majors in biology and flute performance.

Since 1988, the Bertha Bonn scholarship, administered by the Western Minnesota Masonic Foundation and overseen by Sunset Lodge 109, has been presented to 25 Montevideo seniors.

The second-largest scholarship, the $8,000 Claude Dziuk Founder Memorial Scholarship, was presented to Christiana Agrotis, who will attend Ohio State University to major in occupational therapy.

The Harold & Alice Rue Memorial Scholarship, worth $6,700, was awarded to Kayla Aanerud. Aanerud plans to attend North Dakota State University to major in exercise science and nursing.
