  • Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, MAAC Inc., the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the city of Montevideo and the engineering firm of Rodeberg and Berryman met to discuss the final details of a tentative schedule for the Chippewa River dam removal.
It was decided that the Army Corps of Engineers would throttle down the Lac qui Parle dam for six to eight weeks — except between Aug. 6 and 10 — to allow MAAC Inc. to begin work.
Work will start on the week of July 9, when MAAC Inc. will but a notch in the dam to lower the water level behind it. Then, as water levels decline, they will begin bringing in rocks to build the rapids and destroy the dam bit by bit.
