  • The Montevideo swimming and diving team matched their victory total of last season by downing Minnewaska/Morris in the first dual meet of the season at the University of Minnesota, Morris, last Thursday.
The Thunder Hawks led from start to finish in scoring a 116-69 win against the team they had beaten last season.
Racquel Winters had a big night for the Thunder Hawks. Winters had a hand in four first-place finishes, winning the 200 and 100 freestyle races and leading off the first-place 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Montevideo won all but two of the 12 events. Baylee Pauling won the 50 freestyle; Allyssa Parker, diving; Kelsey Quigley, 500 freestyle; Mae Dessureault, 100 backstroke; and Lexi Quigley, 100 breaststroke.
Joining Racquel Winters on the 200 free relay were Stina Ostlie, Marisa Winters and Abby Grussing. Dessureault, Kelsey Quigley and Pauling finished the 400 free relay that Racquel Winters led off.
Getting the meet off to a good start by winning the 200 medley relay were Meghan Mortenson, Ostlie, Kelsey Quigley and Pauling.
"It was a perfect way to start the (dual meet) season," said coach Nick Patton. "It will give us confidence to go into meets swimming hard, knowing we can win."
The T-Hawks will open the home season with a dual meet against Holdingford today (Thursday) at 6 p.m. Montevideo will host traditional rival Melrose on Tuesday.
