For the first time, K-12 public schools can accept online donations through GiveMN.org. GiveMN is a nonprofit website designed to make donating money online as safe, easy and quick as possible.
Since 2009, GiveMN has been transforming philanthropy in Minnesota and has raised $50 million for more than 6,100 nonprofits.
“We are very excited to offer this opportunity to public schools in Minnesota,” said Dana Nelson, executive director. “We understand the budget crunches that schools face and think GiveMN is an innovative way for communities to come together to support their schools.”
By setting up a fundraising page on GiveMN, schools will have the opportunity to reach donors throughout the world. Grandparents and relatives can easily support the students in their lives. It also allows alumni to give back to schools.
“GiveMN can help your efforts to provide more resources for students in the classroom,” Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius said. “I would encourage schools to learn more about this great opportunity.”
Schools will also have the opportunity to participate in Give to the Max Day on Nov.15, 2012. Give to the Max Day is a day for Minnesotans to come together to raise millions of dollars for thousands of nonprofits and schools in 24 hours – starting at midnight on Nov. 15 through midnight on Nov. 16. During the event, K-12 public schools will be eligible for prize grants in the form of “Golden Tickets” – an hourly drawing to add $1,000 to a person’s donation, randomly selected from donors who give
to a K-12 public school each hour during the 24-hour event. At the end of the event, one K-12 public school’s donor will be drawn to receive a Super-sized Golden Ticket, adding $10,000 to that donation!
