  • Benson quarterback Matt Ahrndt ran for four touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Braves to a 46-6 West Central Conference over the Thunder Hawks Friday at Montevideo.
The win gave Benson possession of the Lil' Gold Jug traveling trophy. Since the "Jug" series was initiated in 2000, Benson leads the series 6-5. The teams did not play each other last season.
With Ahrndt accounting for 404 yards of total offense, the Braves (2-1) dominated from the outset.
The T-Hawks got on the scoreboard with 10:15 to go in the game when sophomore fullback Markus Kranz scored on a 5-yard run, capping Montevideo's best drive of the night.
Another traveling trophy will be on the line Friday when the Thunder Hawks travel to Granite Falls to meet Yellow Medicine East in the Battle for the Paddle. Both teams are seeking their first victory. The Sting lost 35-6 at Lac qui Parle Valley Friday.
