Thank you to Walmart
On behalf of the VFW Post 380 Ladies Auxiliary, I would like to say thank you.
Thank you to Walmart for allowing us to put up our donation boxes, to the many, many people who generously donated school supplies and to our local businesses for their monetary donations.
We were able to fulfill the teachers requests and help a lot of students. We are looking forward to next year and doing a lot more for our teachers and students.
Together we have made a difference.
VFW 380 Auxiliary President
Thanks to the VFW Auxiliary
The VFW Auxiliary donated a wonderful array of school supplies to be used by our students. Working together to educate our children — that is what it is all about.
We just wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks for this contribution, but, even more so, for the support it conveys. Thank you very much.
Promoting the holiday season
The holiday season is quickly approaching, and we know many groups and organizations are making plans for events and activities.
The Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce has a number of events and promotions spanning the season, and we would like to facilitate communication and cooperation among the various organization and their events. We would also like to make a solid listing of events happening in the area from Thanksgiving to New Year's so we can advertise our community and its happenings for the people of our region.
To this end, we are holding biweekly meetings on retail events and promotions. The meetings are held at the Montevideo Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesdays at noon. The next meeting will be on Oct. 17, and again on Oct. 31, and so on.
If you need more information, or are unable to attend, but want to be a part of a concerted Montevideo holiday promotions effort, contact the Chamber at (320) 269-5527.
The good old days are alive
Dear friends, many times I have heard about the good old days when people used to help each other.
Well, I have wonderful news. The good old days are alive and well. On Sept. 25, about six combines and 18 semis came to my brother's (Dale Smith) fields and took out his corn, as he had passed away on Aug. 25. It was a wonderful day and we appreciated the help so much.
Then, on Monday, Oct. 1, once again the combines and semis came and took out Dale's soybeans. Jason, Melissa, Justin and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out from your fall harvest to help us. It is such a relief to have that done. Each person told us that they were there for Dale and we really appreciate this.
Randy Knutson organized this effort and did an excellent job. Many ladies baked bars and Cargill helped furnish the lunches. We are so thankful to these folks also.
I will not attempt to name everyone who was there because I did not know all of you and will forget someone for sure. Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
A yes vote on amendment
Have you attempted to cash a check at a bank that you do not have an account with lately?
In order to cash a check written to me from my duaghter, at her bank, I had to supply two forms of identification, my driver's license and a credit card. Plus, I was thumb-printed on her check to receive payment.
Additionally, to open an account with most businesses that require monthly billing re: cell phones, electrical, insurance, credit cards, what type of identification do these businesses require? A home address, telephone number, Social Security number, driver's license and maybe a bank account number as well. Now I ask, is it too much to provide a photo ID to vote?
We, the people of the state of Minnesota, have the opportunity to take a step to ensure secure and fair elections with the passage of the Voter ID Amendment.
The amendment states that the states must issue photographic identification at no charge to an eligible voter who does not have a form of identification meeting the requirements of this section. This will make showing an ID quite easy at the polling place.
I believe that showing a photo ID at the polling place will not be a hardship or any inconvenience for anyone and will insure a secure and fair election.
For more information, please check out the state of Minnesota's link to the amendment: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/laws/?id=Chapter&year+2012&type+O.
Please vote yes for the Voter ID Amendment on Nov. 6, 2012.
