Fairmont ended the Montevideo tennis team's season in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A tournament last Thursday on a blustery day at Fairmont.
Fairmont, seeded fourth, edged the fifth-seeded Thunder Hawks 4-3, with two of Montevideo's losses going the full three sets.
"It was a very competitive match. It could have gone either way," said Montevideo coach Barry Brace.
Winning matches for the T-Hawks were Sierra Frazier, at No. 2 singles, and the doubles teams of Rose Reinert-Lyndsey Moe and Froya Olson-Morgan Reidinger.
The T-Hawks finished the reason with 13 wins, eight losses and one tie.
The section singles and doubles tourney will begin today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at Redwood Falls and conclude Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
Representing Montevideo in singles will be Maroney and Moe. Catherine Haugen and Frazier, who finished third in the section last year in doubles, will form one doubles team. Reinert and Olson will make up Montevideo's second doubles combination.
