  • Around 40 people, split into groups of five or six, joined local hunting guides and landowners on Saturday for the 10th Annual Montevideo Goose and Pheasant Hunt.
Last year, at the ninth opener, there were slim pickings due to a harsh winter. This year, each group managed to bag between six and eight birds.
“It’s fun ... all over Minnesota, people love the outdoors. It is a generator of revenue all over the state,” said Sen. Al Franken, who, along with Rep. Collin Peterson, DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr and other officials and politicians from around the state, took part in the hunt.
Franken’s words point out the importance of the annual hunt’s goals.
“It brings recognition of the hunting opportunities in our area,” said Angie Steinbach, Montevideo’s community development director.
