  • Bomb threat disrupts polling location

  • At approximately 11:24 am, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriffs Dispatch Center received a call regarding a bomb threat at Minnesota West Community and Technical College Canby Campus, 1011 1st St W, Canby, MN. The Canby Police Department, Canby Fire Department, Canby Ambulance, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene. The bomb threat originated from the Main Administrative Building. An unknown suspect utilizing a pen wrote “bomb in school” on the inside of a female bathroom stall door. It is unknown at what time this threat was written on the door. Two female students found the writing and immediately reported the discovery to school officials. After receiving the report from the students, Campus Dean Rebecca Weber immediately followed the school policy and procedures regarding this type of threat and had the property evacuated and the proper officials contacted. Voting was disrupted at a polling location located within the Technology Building. There were several nearby buildings that were evacuated as a precaution. After the first responders cleared all of the property, the scene was declared safe at 1:00 pm. All normal activity, including the polling station, was allowed to resume at this time. The Canby Police Department is investigating the origin of the threat. If anybody has any information concerning this crime, please call the Canby Police Department at 507-223-7211.
