  • Four Montevideo runners competed in the state Class A cross country meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield Saturday.
Zac Enevoldsen led the Montevideo boys by finishing 71st. Ryan Maroney was 77th and Joe Varpness 103rd.
Claire Sulflow finished 102nd out of 175 runners in the girls race.
"It was a great day. We're so proud of how the kids stepped up and competed against the best in the state," said Montevideo coach Jamie Harrington.
"The boys all (had personal records) and really left it all out there. Claire was in a tough spot, having to run without any of her teammates with her at the start, but ran hard. The experience will be huge for her (as well as Zac and Joe) if we get a chance to get back in the future. Hopefully, the experience will inspire them to continue to work hard and improve for next year. The future looks bright!"
Alaysia Freetly of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd finished 19th in the girls race, earning all-state honors.
