A "Blue and Gray Christmas in the Village" will be held on Saturday. This is the Chippewa County Historical Society’s 34th annual event, and will continue the Society’s commemoration of the U.S./Dakota War of 1862, as well as the U.S. Civil War by highlighting the 1860’s.
A "Blue and Gray Christmas in the Village" will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Historic Chippewa City which is located at the junctions of Highways 7 & 59 in Montevideo. This is the Chippewa County Historical Society’s 34th annual event, and will continue the Society’s commemoration of the U.S./Dakota War of 1862, as well as the U.S. Civil War by highlighting the 1860’s. Throughout the day, a variety of events will be ongoing. At 10:00 a.m., the Candy Shop and Bake Sale will begin. Area artisans will be located in various heated buildings and will offer a large variety of unique gift items including crocheted ornaments and decorations, spinning, knitted hats, bracelets, pocket purses, hair wear, handspun alpaca yarn, knitting, weaving, Herbalife, wildlife and western ornaments, doilies, wooden antique tractor replicas, apples, cider, jams, syrups, dressings, honeys, hardanger, cross stitch, magnetic jewelry, cards, weaving, wool purses, and more! The Gift Shop will be open as well and will feature original work by local artists. Local author and teacher Ann Wachtler will also join us for the day. At the Ness House, you can enjoy “A Patriotic Christmas” and remember to stroll throughout the Village to see all of the buildings decorated for the holiday season. Other treats include a visit with Santa Claus from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., horse drawn rides from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m., and children’s crafts from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Displays and exhibits will be featured in the Gateway Building and Village Hall. The annual program will highlight the day's activities, and will include unique information on the 1860's. A meatball dinner will be available in the lunch line, and family favorites such as rice pudding, lefse, krumkake, and rosettes will be served! Serving will begin at 11:00 a.m. Our old fashioned radio show will be held at 11:00 a.m., with an encore presentation at 1:00 p.m. This year's original script is about two guardian angels, Harold and Gloria, who will be featured in the world premiere production of "Heaven Sent". Witty, humorous, and laugh your socks off, perhaps best describe Harold and Gloria! Immediately following the 1:00 p.m. show, Georgia Hanson's students will present their annual Christmas in the Village piano recital.
