  • Thanks to the efforts of volunteers like Dave Swenson, of Montevideo, the Salvation Army collected $147 million last year through its Red Kettle Campaign.
    Swenson is beginning his sixth year as Chippewa County "bell-ringer chairman" for the Salvation Army's annual fund­raising drive during the holiday season. He says his goal this year is to raise $8,000.
    The campaign began Nov 23 and will continue through Dec. 24. "We have several counter kettles out in Montevideo," said Swenson. "We also have several permanent sites for ringing at Bill's Supermarket, Coborn's, Second Time Around Thrift Shop, and WalMart.
