The Montevideo Music Boosters are producing the 2nd Annual Montevideo’s Show of Shows featuring performing artists of all ages from the Montevideo area. The event will take place on Saturday, January 5 at the Fine Arts Center. The show will include vocal and instrumental music and ballet. Modeled loosely after the 1950’s variety show “Your Show of Shows” the evening will be hosted by radio personality Tim Burns who also will play “Stump the Piano Player” with the audience.
Marysa Abbas, a 2007 graduate of Montevideo High School will be one of the featured performers. “I am so excited to be able to perform this year,” she said. “I was invited to perform last year, but the date did not match with my travel plans.” This year, the show planners got in touch with Abbas in September in the hopes that she would be able to plan a holiday visit with her family to coincide with the date of the show. Abbas is currently a graduate student at Wichita State University working toward a master’s degree in Opera Performance. “I am extremely grateful to Montevideo’s music program, and am excited to give something back. It will be great to be on the stage of the Fine Arts Center again!” Other performers will include Amery and Garrett Arends and Jada Ashling, the Community Band’s Clarinet Quartet, the Salem Men’s Quartet, dancer Marisa Winters, pianist Eric Lin, and the Twelfth Night Choir.
Tickets will be available at the door the night of the show. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children under 12 will be admitted free. All proceeds go to support the projects and activities of the Montevideo Music Boosters. The Montevideo Music Boosters is a non-profit volunteer organization incorporated in 2007 with the mission to support, promote, and encourage music learning and appreciation in Montevideo. Since 2010 the group has provided $34,133 in grants to ISD #129 to support the music curriculum at ISD #129.
