  • The Board of Directors of the Montevideo Music Boosters had some fun at their early December meeting. The Board reviewed and approved two requests for funds from the group's Friends of Music Fund.
The Friends of Music Fund supports music curriculum needs at ISD 129 and is funded through contributions from parents, grandparents, local businesses, and alumni.
One grant for $1,500 will support the purchase of a HD technology video camera suitable for filming school performances in low light venues like the Fine Arts Center. According to middle and high school Choir Director Dan Hampton, "It will be especially nice to have a camera that will produce high quality DVDs of the musicals, concerts, and special events like The Chamber-lain's Feast and even parade performances of the marching band."
Hampton explained that in addition to producing DVDs of performances for students and families, "We use video footage from concerts at several grade levels to point out aspects of the performances that need improvement." The new camera will do a much better job of capturing things like facial expression.
A second grant for $1,500 will support the purchase of a new 29 inch timpani for the Montevideo High School Band. According to Jennifer Rosin, the existing set of four timpani were purchased in 1962 and no longer hold the fundamental pitch.
