Thanks to the generosity of Chippewa County residents and hard work by local Salvation Army volunteers, headed by Dave Swenson, the Red Kettle Campaign achieved its goal of $8,000 this year.
The Red Kettle Campaign normally ends on Christmas Eve day, but Swenson didn't stop there this year.
Thanks to an extremely generous donation by Jeff Drexler, owner of American Surplus and Manufacturing, of Montevideo, the county Salvation Army organization could possibly triple its original fundraising goal.
Drexler approached Swenson with the idea of donating the 10,000th Ice Castle Fish House that American Surplus has manufactured since 1999. The fishhouse to be donated will be the company's top-of-the-line Lake of the Woods model — an 8-by-16 foot model equipped with retractable wheels, air conditioning and satellite TV hook-up and numerous other amenities.
