  • West Central Conference victories over Benson and Yellow Medicine East raised the Montevideo boys basketball team's overall record to 6-3 and their conference mark to 4-1.
    The Thunder Hawks will host ACGC Friday and they will play MACCRAY at Clara City Monday.
    Montevideo 76, Benson 59
    The Thunder Hawks singed the nets for 11 three-point baskets in soring a 76-59 West Central Conference South home win over Benson last Thursday.
    With Jordan Thompson sinking a pair of three-pointers, Montevideo took an early 21-8 lead.
    Benson took advantage of Montevideo turnovers to pull within 25-24 before three-pointers by Ryan Maroney and Thompson gave the T-Hawks a 31-26 halftime advantage.
    The three-point barrage continued in the second half. Maroney made consecutive treys for a 47-33 lead. Jesse Brace, who led Montevideo in scoring with 21 points, made a pair of three-pointers and Maroney added another for a 50-33 lead with 13:08 to play.
    For the game, Montevideo went 11-for-19 from long distance.
    Montevideo 77, YME 41
    The Thunder Hawks routed Yellow Medicine East for the second time this season Tuesday at Granite Falls.
    All 13 Thunder Hawks players got into the scoring column. Ryan Maroney led the way with 16 points, followed by Jesse Brace and Troy Diggins with 10 each.
