The Montevideo School Board held its first meeting of the new year Monday.
Newly elected board member Alan Van Ravenswaay took the oath of office as did re-elected board members Darin Balken and Maggie Kluver.
Board officers for the upcoming year are: Balken, chairperson; Andrew Stenson, vice-chairman; Kluver, cleck; and Tim Forde, treasurer.
The following committee assignments were made for the upcoming year:
MRVED board: Darin Balken.
Community Ed/Rec. Advisory: Alan Van Ravenswaay.
Licensed and non-licensed personnel-labor management: Andrew Stenson and Steve Kubista.
Indoor air quality/health and safety/wellness: Maggie Kluver and Van Ravenswaay.
Transportation: Kubista and Balken.
District staff development/systems accountability: Kluver and Van Ravenswaay.
Fine arts advisory: Tim Forde and Van Ravenswaay.
Athletics advisory: Forde and Kubista.
Technology: Forde and Stenson.
Continuing education: Forde.
Minnesota State High School League: Van Ravenswaay and Kluver.
Legislative liaison - MSBA: Kluver.
The board approved a request by Principal Bob Grey and FFA advisor Brian Albers to move forward with the implementation of trap shooting as an FFA activity this spring.
Trap shooting has been a long-standing FFA activity at the state and national levels. It would not involve students bringing guns to school.
