Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, has launched "The Dream is Now," a website pushing for passage of the Dream Act, Yahoo News reports. The Dream Act is a piece of federal legislation designed to create pathways to citizenship for those brought to the U.S. illegally as children. The Dream Act would legalize those under the age of 30 who entered the U.S. before they were 15. Applicants would be required to prove they have no criminal record, and to enlist in the military or attend at least two years of college.
Undocumented immigrants who would qualify for legalization under the Dream Act are encouraged to visit www.thedreamisnow.org and share their stories. Powell Jobs has partnered with David Guggenheim, director of "Waiting for Superman" to have the stories compiled into a documentary. They hope the documentary will serve as a petition, and put a face to those who will be helped by the Dream Act.
