The 29th Annual Ridgewater College Skills Fest is set for Thursday, February 14 on the Willmar campus.
From 9 to 11:30 a.m., 600-700 sophomores, juniors and seniors from several regional high schools will display their skills through numerous competitions, ranging from photography, accounting and veterinary technician skills to activities in agriculture, automotives and computer networking.
“It’s one of my favorite events of the year,” said event coordinator Sally Kerfeld of Ridgewater. “A lot of people come together to make it happen, and then to see the students cheering each other on and cheering for their schools - it’s just such a unique event with lots of energy.”
Although registrations are still coming in, Kerfeld expects more than 600 students to participate in about 20 different categories. High school students spend time with college students in the participating program areas and get to see a bit of what college life is like. Once competition is complete, students enjoy lunch, entertainment and a slideshow of the morning’s activities.
At 12 p.m., winners are recognized at an awards ceremony in the gymnasium. First place winners receive $200 scholarships to either Ridgewater College campus in Willmar or Hutchinson.
