On Wednesday, March 20, Montevideo city staff traveled to St. Paul to testify before the Senate Finance Committee Environment, Economic Development and Agriculture Division.
They testified about the city's request to receive $3.5 million for the final phase of levee reconstruction in Montevideo, which would rebuild the old 1969 levee.
"This is just one hearing in a process to attempt to get state bonding to complete phase three of the levee system," said City Manager Steve Jones.
Phase one rebuilt and improved the levee along Highway 7 near city hall. Phase two raised the levee near the water treatment plant and raised Highway 212.
