The 17-year cicadas are set to hatch this spring in the East Coast, and people can expect “as many as 1 billion cicadas emerging per square mile,” the University of Maryland’s Michael Raupp told Yahoo News. The insects aren’t harmful and simply make a lot of noise - and leave behind a lot of carcases. In 2007, Chicago and other cities in the Midwest experienced the 17-year cicadas.
