  • This winter was generally a good season for Montevideo sports teams. Now if it would only end so we can give our spring sports teams a chance.
According to athletic director Bob Grey, by Friday, 22 scheduled events will have been postponed or cancelled, with the likelihood of more next week.
The baseball team's win over Pipestone Saturday at the Metrodome has been the only event that's been held.
Looking back at the winter sports season, Montevideo athletes did well as a team and individually.
The girls basketball team was much-improved, posting a 15-11 record and finishing second in the sub-section to state entrant BOLD.
The boys basketball team was 10-15, but they would likely have been over .500 if not for the injury to Jesse Brace.
Had the wrestlers not have had to forfeit the two heaviest weights all season, their record would have been much better than 4-11. Spencer Sulflow and Logan were state meet qualifiers.
The swimmers and divers were third in the section and 21st in the state, with Jack Spaeth finishing third in the backstroke and Tyler Gort sixth in the breaststroke.
The Gold Dusters just missed qualifying for state competition in Class AA. They will be back in Class A next season..
