The Montevideo boys track team will attempt to add the section title to their conference and sub-section championships when Benson hosts the Section 3A meet today (Thursday).
The Thunder Hawks outdistanced Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd by 55 points to win the Sub-Section 12 title here last Thursday. The Montevideo girls were third in the seven-team meet.
Individual event winners for the Montevideo boys were Jack Spaeth, 110 hurdles; Spencer Sulflow, 3,200 meters and Wyatt Enger, high jump. Spaeth, Enger, Preston Herfurth and Matt Fischer won the 400 relay.
Placing second were Fischer, 100 dash; Joe Varpness, 1,600 and 3,200; Enger, 200 dash, Casey Reeves, triple jump; and Jared Benjamin, pole vault. Montevideo’s 800 relay of Adam DeZeeuw, Enger, Reeves and Benjamin was second.
Jamilah Carson won the 800-meter run for the Thunder Hawks girls.
Placing second were Alyssa Stern, pole vault; the 3,200 relay of Mollie Varpness, Julia Voller, Addie Reinert and Taylor Root; the 800 relay of Jessie Tastad, Molly Reeves, Claire Sulflow and Carson; and the 1,600 relay of Reeves, Tastad, Sulflow and Carson.
