  • Lorayne Berg, 96, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Clarkfield Care Center. A private memorial service will be held later this summer.

Lorayne Vernice Morstad was born in Boyd, Dec. 5, 1916, to Adolph and Clara (Saltness) Morstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and graduated from Boyd High School in 1934.

She married Ernest Berg, Aug. 9, 1936. They worked together in the Dry Cleaning business, owning and operating stores in Litchfield, Marshall and Montevideo. After their retirement, they purchased the Bourne Motel on Black Oak Avenue in Montevideo.  She continued to live there until 2005 when she became a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center.

Music was an important part of her life. She played the piano and organ for more than 70 years. She was an active volunteer at Luther Haven, sharing her music freely at the piano and with the residents’ choir. She was a member of Trinity Free Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Sons of Norway.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Berg, of Starbuck, and David Berg, of Battle Lake; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband (1992) and brothers, Arvid and Percy Morstad, and Rudie Saltness.

Wing-Bain Funeral Home, of Montevideo, is in charge of the arrangements. (www.wingbain.com)
