  • The Chippewa Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting “Local Women Give a Dam”, an evening workshop for women landowners focusing on how the removal of dams affect rivers. "An aging infrastructure and a better understanding of river systems has led to the removal of several dams in Minnesota, including two local ones," says Jean Diggins, Chippewa SWCD Manager, "and this year's workshop will provide information on the removal process and the anticipated river changes."

The event is being held Thursday, June 20 from 5:30-9:00 pm. Participants should meet at the Shelter House in Smith Park, Montevideo. A complimentary meal is included as part of the workshop. Both the workshop and meal are free. Preregistration is requested by June 17.

The evening will feature guest speaker Chris Domeier, DNR Assistant Area Fisheries Supervisor, explaining the dam removal process, in particular, the removals of the Minnesota Falls Dam near Granite Falls and the Chippewa River Dam in Montevideo. These removals were done within the last year and the workshop will cover the effects on river health and the changes that can be expected. It's an opportunity to view the Chippewa River Dam removal site and ask questions.
