Brett Bergeson's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth capped a Montevideo rally from a 4-0 deficit as the Spartans edged Chokio 5-4 here Friday.
Montevideo's Colton Vien and Chokio's Alex Erickson were locked in a scoreless pitchers' duel through five innings before Chokio scored an earned run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.
Erickson allowed just two hits before the Spartans got to him for three runs in the eighth. Tyler Hill singled and Mitch Christensen followed with a single that was misplayed in the outfield allowing Hill to score. Doubles by Cam Vien and Joe Schlagel pulled Montevideo within one run.
Colton Vien and Josh Anderson started the ninth inning with singles. Eldon Evans executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to more the runners up, setting up Bergeson's game-winning hit to right field.
Evans got credit for the win, striking out the final two Chokio hitters in the ninth. Vien pitched the first seven innings, giving up five hits, no earned runs and two walks, while striking out 13.
The Spartans played Raymond and Starbuck in a pair of seven-inning games Saturday at Raymond.
Raymond ended Montevideo's five-game winning streak by downing the Spartans 9-2. Both teams had seven hits, but the Rockets also capitalized on five walks.
Jarrod Holmgren had two hits, including a double, and knocked in both Montevideo runs.
The Spartans bounced back to top Starbuck 6-1 in the second game. Cam Vien's single scored Anderson with what proved to be the winning run in the third.
Holmgren singled in a pair of insurance runs in the fifth. Colton Vien had two of Montevideo's six hits.
Holmgren pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing four hits and an unearned run.
The Spartans, who are 9-5 on the season, played at Dawson Wednesday. Montevideo will travel to Ortonville for a 5 p.m. game with the Rox on Sunday.
