    The Spartans will play Appleton Saturday at 11 a.m. in Morris, with the winner playing Morris in the following game for the Canvas League title. The top two teams will advance in the region playoffs.
    Montevideo topped Benson 15-5 in eight innings here Saturday.
    Colton Vien went the first seven innings, giving up one earned run while striking out 11. Vien also went 4-for-4 at the plate, with three RBI.
    Joe Schlagel had three hits, Cam Vien had two hits and knocked in four runs, and Mitch Christensen and Brett Bergeson had two hits each as the Spartans amassed 17 hits in the game. Austin Hoehne doubled in two runs in Montevideo's three-run eighth inning, which ended the game
    The Spartans dropped into the losers' bracket by losing a 15-9 slugfest to Morris Sunday at Morris.
    The Spartans took a 5-2 lead in the top of the third, but the Eagles regained the lead 8-5 with a four-run fourth inning.
    Morris had 20 hits off three Montevideo pitchers.
    The Spartans were led by Joe Schlagel, who was 3-for-5 with three triples and three RBI, and Cam Vien, who was also 3-for-5. Brett Bergeson and Tanner Lindemann had two hits each.
