  • The Marc and Jan Stevens family has been named the Chippewa County Farm Family of the year.

Marc and Jan Stevens started farming in the Montevideo area in 1988 with Marc’s parents and bought the home farm place in 1995. Today they live on the home farm and have 1400 acres of corn, soybeans, sugar beets, contracted peas, and contracted sweet corn. The only livestock the Stevens have are four horses. Most of their labor on the farm comes from family members; however, they have hired seasonal help for weeding sugar beet fields in the summer and currently do hire truck drivers for the sugar beet harvest in the fall. Marc and Jan have three children, Megan, Darin, and Rachel. Megan and Darin are college students and Rachel is a senior in high school. Darin is majoring in Ag Business and plans to return to the family farm after graduating from college. All three children help out on the farm as their schedule allows. In addition, Marc and Jan get help from Marc’s father, Ronald, and his wife, Karen.

In the community, the Stevens are active in their local church, Calvary Baptist, where they serve on various committees. They are also active in the Montevideo school system and in 4-H at the club, county, regional, state, and national levels. Agriculture organizations the Stevens are involved in include Chippewa County Farm Bureau, Minnesota Farm Bureau (State Young Farmer Committee, State Young Farmer Achievement), Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, Southern MN Beet Sugar Coop board, and the Montevideo KleinBank board.
