  • Services celebrating the life of Karen Rae Corbin, will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Atonement Lutheran Church, St. Cloud.  Karen, age 64 and a Crookston native, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Rev. Erica Kennedy will officiate. Friends and relatives may call on Friday, August 16th from 4:00PM to 8:00 PM at the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Karen was born February 19, 1949 to the late Wayne and Alma (Hartmann) Hackett in Crookston, Minnesota, which is also where she was raised.  She attended Central High School in Crookston, Minnesota.  She was united in marriage to Larry A. Corbin, Sr. on February 26, 1966.  Karen “as she put it” was the CEO of the Corbin household her whole life. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church.   Karen enjoyed many things in life all of which she embraced with so much passion, optimism and enthusiasm. This included gardening, girls night out, bowling, traveling, the traditional yearly trip to the Minnesota State Fair, and watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.
The most important aspect in life to Karen was her family.  She made this evident with the strong, everlasting love she had and showed and continued to show even after the passing of her husband, Larry.  Karen’s unconditional love for her children and grandchildren never faltered, directly resulting in the strong cohesiveness amongst her family.  Karen always spoke to and taught the importance of family.
One other significant part of Karen was her desire to always help others.  She did this in numerous ways.  One example in particular was how she embraced her diagnosis of terminal lung cancer.  She used it as a blessing and helped others in their journeys with cancer.
Karen was an amazing wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Karen is survived by her children, Larry Jr. “Chip” Corbin of Brooklyn Park, Christine DeZurik of St. Cloud, Kim (Pete) Matanich of St. Cloud, Kelly (Dusty) Lovold of Sauk Rapids; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Rebecca DeZurik, Kevin Grove, Nick and Anne Corbin, and Peter J. and Corbin Matanich; siblings Marlys (Jon) Perry of Crookston, Verna (Bill) Gatheridge of Crookston, Mylan “Bud” (Jeanne) Hackett of East Grand Forks.  She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, extended family, and very special friends.  Preceding her in death are her husband and parents.
The family of Karen Corbin would like to especially thank the Coborn Cancer Center staff, Deb Corrigan and Dr. Elkadi for their kind and caring touch as well as their help in our quest in keeping HOPE alive throughout our mom’s journey with cancer.
