Services were on September 3 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Karlstad, Minn.
Kal Kenneth Joseph Michael Walsh, the son of the late William P. and Luella M. (Connelly) Walsh, was born on an. 26, 1944, at home in Crookston, MN. He attended Cathedral Elementary and Crookston Central High School there. While growing up, he worked with his father at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston as a grounds keeper. In 1960, Kal worked at Charon & Baatz Phillips 66 gas station as an attendant and mechanic. Later, he worked two jobs: Kelly Oil Co. in Crookston and Thiberts Sports Center in Red Lake Falls. In the summer months he enjoyed his motorcycle and winter months his snowmobile. Kal moved to Council Bluffs, IA and worked at ATI and Freight Liners as a semi-truck mechanic. This is where he met Sue, the love of his life. They were blessed in marriage on Dec. 10, 1977. In the early 1980s he moved his family back to Minnesota. They lived in Dorothy, MN where he worked at Motor Coach Ind. at Pembina, ND. Kal served on the Halma Town Council for several years. After retirement he enjoyed summers mowing the Halma town park, church and various other town properties. Their home in Halma became the "hub" of family and friends. Many fun times of fishing, hunting, holidays and just to come and relax with his humorous company. He enjoyed company and times spent with friends and family. Kal passed away unexpectedly at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN on Thur. morning, Aug. 29, 2013, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 3 days.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter: Tammy (Brenden) Wilde, Thief River Falls; two grandsons: Jacob (Amanda) Wilde (great-grandchildren: Levi and Kaylea) all of East Grand Forks and Zachary Wilde, of thief River Falls; 8 siblings: Bill (Mary) Walsh, of Red Lake Falls; Ella (George) Hurt, of Vinita, OK; Jim (Terry) Walsh, of Lake Bronson; Carol Meine, of Crookston; Peggy (Bob) Mantei, Fairbanks, AK; Patrick (Linda) Walsh, of Pacific Junction, IA; and Cathy (Linus) Desrosier and Theresa (John) Hagl, both of Red Lake Falls; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Kal was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: John, brother-in-law: Willard Meine, Sr., nephew: James Walsh, Jr. and great-nephew: Curtis Richie.
Kal's funeral was held on September 3 at 10 A.M. at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Karlstad, Minnesota.
