The Thunder Hawks split a pair of West Central Confeerence North volleyball matches the past week, losing at Melrose and winning a five-set marathon at home against Minnewaska.
Montevideo will play at Morris today (Thursday). They host their annual eight-team tournament Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. BOLD will be here on Tuesday.
Melrose 3, Montevideo 0
All three sets were very close, but the Thunder Hawks lost 3-0 at Melrose last Thursday.
Alexis Schmitz had 12 kills for Montevideo. Kayla Collins had team-highs of 16 digs and two ace serves.
Monte 3, Minnewaska 2
After winning the first two sets, the T-Hawks needed to win the fifth and deciding set against Minnewaska here Tuesday.
Kiersti Grey served for seven straight points in the opening set, and Tori Kuhlmann’s well-placed tip gave Montevideo the second set 25-23.
Minnewaska controlled the play and made fewer errors in winning the next two sets.
With the match on the line, Grey served for the first seven points, including three aces, in set 5.
The Lakers pulled within 11-9, but the T-Hawks got kikks from Alexis Schmitz, Alyssa Stern and Jessie Janisch before the Lakers made a hitting error on match point.
Freshman Abby Olson, in her first varsity match, led the team with 12 kills.
