The Montevideo cross country teams took on some of the area’s top teams and individual runners in their home invitational on Tuesday at The Crossings.
Marshall dominated both the varsity boys and girls meets with impressive team scores of 28. Marshall had the top two runners in both the boys and girls races. The Marshall girls are ranked No. 12 in the state in Class AA.
While Marshall provided excellent competition, the meet also served as an indicator of how the Montevideo teams stack up at this point of the season against some of their Section 3A rivals.
The Montevideo boys finished second, 15 points ahead of Canby/Minneota-Lincoln HI, the state’s eighth-ranked Class A team.
“Many coaches consider Canby/Minneota to be the section favorite,” said Montevideo coach Jamie Harrington. “I think it’s going to be a really close race when we get (to the section meet Oct. 24).”
The Thunder Hawks girls were fourth, trailing Canby/Minneota-Lincoln HI, which is ranked 10th in Class A, and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, the state’s seventh-ranked team.
