  • Ron Schultz combined corn east of Montevideo last Thursday while his son, Scott, pulled a grain cart. As of Monday, only 48 percent of Minnesota’s corn crop, 91 percent of the soybeans and 84 percent of the sugar beets had been harvested, well behind the five-year averages, although farmers in this area are ahead of that pace, said Chippewa County Farm Service Agency Director Liz Ludwig. Due to later than normal planting dates, corn still is averaging about 21 percent moisture. Last year at this time, the harvest was nearly completed. (Staff photo by Bruce Olson)
