  • The season came to an end for the Montevideo swimming and diving team in the always strong Section 3A meet at Willmar.
In Thursday’s preliminary round, the Thunder Hawks advanced to the championship (top 8) finals in the 200 freestyle relay, with Annie Agrotis, Rylee Schultz, Lexi Quigley and Katia Osman coming in eighth. They cut 1.82 seconds off their time in Saturday’s finals but still finished in eighth place.
Montevideo’s two divers, senior Allyssa Parker and junior Alex Hansen, had the Thunder Hawks’ top individual placings.
Parker was sixth in Saturday morning’s semifinals before eventually finishing seventh. Hansen, who was 10th after the semifinals, moved up to eighth place.
“Overall, I feel that we had a good section meet,” said Montevideo coach Nick Patton. “We are a small school swimming against great teams and one of the toughest single A sections.  It is almost like a mini state meet in some ways. Our girls had some great swims, time cuts, and personal bests that are not reflected in the overall team scores. We are happy with the way that we performed and know what we need to work on to get more of those top 16 times next year.”
