    Enlist in the Salvation Army
Helping those you know can be very good. Helping those you may not know can even be better. But many times we don’t get that chance. Volunteering to ring the bell or giving to the Salvation Army allows you to do both.
This is my experience as I am the Chippewa County Bell Ringer coordinator, Dave Swenson. In my seventh year, I am more committed than ever to do that and to ask others to join the army of volunteers across the country who are doing it also.
Chippewa County Salvation Army is requesting volunteers to ring and give in one of its shortest seasons ever. With Thanksgiving so late, we have only four weeks to raise the needed funds.
To volunteer to ring, call (320) 269-7838 or give at the sites listed. Inside ringing is allowed at Bill’s Supermarket, Coborn’s, Second Time Around in Montevideo and Dawson, Thrifty White Drug, and the vestibule at Runnings. Counter kettles are located at Ace Hardware, Valentino’s Restaurant, Java River, Thrifty White Drug, KleinBank’s East Highway 7  and Minnwest Bank’s East Highway 7. The More Café in Milan is a new site this year. Other sites are being sought. Itinerate ringing sites are at Walmart, the three Casey’s locations, and Java River. Business contacts are also being made. Special ringing sites will be at Christmas in the Village, Dec. 7 from 10-4, and the Hollywood on Main for their special Christmas events Dec. 5 and possibly on the 6th.
There are many special groups who have signed up to bell ring. Realtors will be at Coborn’s and other locations on Dec. 6. The Montevideo Fire Dept. will ring at several locations on Tuesday, Dec. 17.  Several church groups will be out 6-8 p.m., including the three Casey’s stores on Dec. 4, 11, and 18. KDMA reps, Andy and Ashley, will be at Pizza Ranch from 11-1 and Thrifty White Drug and Coborn’s 4-6 on Thursday, Dec. 5. The LEO youth Lions Club will ring on one or all three nights of Dec. 12, 17, or 19. Please show support to these volunteers. Other groups are encouraged to join us by calling to set up times and dates.
Page 2 of 2 - Volunteers really hear some great stories about the Salvation Army helping communities in natural disasters and all sorts of emergency situations. Everything is done by a voucher from the administrating agency, Prairie Five CAC, and other authorities. Needs are listened to and merchants receive vouchers to deliver goods and services.
The need knows no season. It is always there. The bell ringing season is short this year. Please volunteer or donate as much as you can. The Salvation Army thanks you.
