  •     Crookston eighth graders will be competing in the first round of the 2014 National Geographic Bee in the Crookston High School auditorium on Thursday, Jan. 9 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to come out and watch the students compete.
CHS social studies teacher Tim Moe said he believes this is the first Geography Bee held in Crookston. It will feature the 10 highest scoring eighth grade students on a pre-test that was conducted before Christmas.  The participants will be Maddie Everett, Jacob Wagner, Claire Frydenlund, Zach Sanders, Kate MacGregor, Pressley Chandler, Jacob Davidson, Nathan Hesby, Jackson Seibel, and Merran Dingmann.
For the 26th year, the National Geographic Society is holding the National Geographic Bee for students in the fourth through eighth grades in thousands of schools across the United States and in the five U.S. territories, as well as in Department of Defense Dependents Schools around the world. The 2014 Bee is sponsored by Google.
The winner of the Crookston Bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine state competitors.  All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $50,000 college scholarship, at the national competition May 19-21, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
