The Montevideo Veterans Home Committee is looking for public assistance to respond to the most recent developments from the state. There is currently legislation in process that is proposing the establishment of units for assisted living and homes for homeless veterans.
“This in itself is not bad and we will cooperate with the state, but the real need is for nursing home care for our aging and disabled veterans,” said Marv Garbe, president of the committee.
The Veterans Home Committee emailed out materials to help volunteers in contacting legislatures. The materials included the emails of House and Senate members, and for Gov. Dayton for mass responses. The materials also incuded statements committee members have made to legislatures in the past, which volunteers are welcomed to look over to help form a response.
The Veterans Home Committee hopes to make the stance of the Montevideo community clear to lawmakers by getting enough people to send Senate and House members emails. “Make sure that you include your name, address and phone number on your emails or else they will ignore the email,” Garbe said.
