  • This year marks the 200th anniversary of the signing of the constitution of Norway at Eidsvoll in 1814. What does that have to do with western Minnesota? Plenty, if you’ll be in Milan celebrating Syttende Mai this weekend.
Joel Lund, of Milan, will be honored in Norway this Syttende Mai, on May 17, at a celebration of the signing. Joel, and other descendants of the signers as well as Norwegian dignitaries will be part of a large event in Norway over the Syttende Mai holiday.
Celebrations will also be held at Milan’s Syttende Mai on May 17, with music, food, arts and crafts, Smorgas tea and a parade.
Music will be playing on main street, and also the Milan Arts School, where crats will be on display. Local author Sue Gee and illustrator Jack Olson, a 16 year old from Milan, will be signing their second collaborative book, and Susan Ammot Kammen, local author, will also be signing her book — all at the Billy Maple Tree store. The Arv Hus containing the history of Milan will be open and busy.
Special foods will be available at the MORE Cafe, Bergen’s Prairie Market and Ray Strand Park. The annual Kviteseid Smorgas Tea will be held from 10 am to 1 pm at the church.
The grand Uff-day parade will begin at 2:00 pm.
