June 9, 1954: Joseph Welch, special counsel for the U.S. Arm, lashes out at Sen. Joseph McCarthy during televised hearings on alleged Communist infiltration of the Army. Welch stung McCarthy with the famous rebuke, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?”
