  • At 6 a.m. on June 12, 2014 the  Minnesota State Patrol and South Dakota Highway Patrol will be teaming up for high visibility enforcement. The enforcement core will be the entire length of I-90 through both states; surrounding state and county roads will have troopers patrolling, as well.

The multi-faceted enforcement effort emphasis is on seat belt usage, speeding, impaired driving and other hazardous moving violations, as well as criminal activity interdiction. The operation will continue through June 13, 2014 at 1 a.m.

In addition to law enforcement officers, each state has assigned  K-9 units and their Commercial Vehicle Section to the operation; both will be active with investigation and inspections.

“We are pleased to partner with our neighboring states to reinforce our commitment to making our roads safer,’’ said Lt. Col. Matt Langer, acting Chief of the Minnesota State Patrol. “Through our cooperative efforts, we can further reduce the number of life-changing events that occur on our roadways.’’

“The goal is to make the highways safer both through enforcement and with the increased public awareness our high-visibility operation brings,’’ said Col. Craig Price, superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. “It’s an opportunity for troopers from neighboring states to work together, jointly encouraging travelers to make safe, smart choices on the roads.’’
