  • Montevideo boy drowns kayaking

  • On Aug. 3 at approximately 5:52 p.m. 15 year old Montevideo native Brennon David Johnson was found dead of an apparent accidental drowning on the northwest side of Lobster Lake in Douglas County.

  • On Aug. 3 at approximately 5:52 p.m. 15 year old Montevideo native Brennon David Johnson was found dead of an apparent accidental drowning on the northwest side of Lobster Lake in Douglas County.
    At about 4:47 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriff’s office received a call from Jazell Holverson of Montevideo who was lodged at Wildridge Campgrounds. Her son, Johnson had been kayaking since 12:30 p.m. that day and his return was overdue. Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies and one Minnesota Conservation Officer arrived to the lake and began searching with several watercraft.
    The “Code Red” was issued in Lobster Lake. Private boaters began helping in the search. At 5:52 p.m. Johnson was found by private boaters. It appeared Johnson capsized and could not exit the kayak. He was found unresponsive in his lifejacket and pronounced dead at the scene The Douglas County Medical Examiner arrived soon thereafter and pronounced the  death to be accidental drowning.
