    Valued teachers
These are tenuous times for teachers as many states, including Minnesota, call into question laws regarding teacher tenure and the role of teachers’ unions. Educators all over the country are facing larger class sizes and legislation that limits their abilities to teach effectively. For me, these issues call to mind the fact that teachers are professionals who deserve our respect and gratitude. Before school starts again, I want to draw attention to the excellence of the teachers of the Montevideo school district.

I graduated from Montevideo 11 years ago, and since that time I have been a student of education or an educator in my own classroom. I have worked in a variety of schools in four different states across the country, including states that are considered to have the top educational systems in the nation. And every time I observe a new educational setting and the teachers there, I continue to be profoundly grateful for the exceptional quality of education I received as a student in Montevideo.

    Those not needed
I was watching CNN and I could not believe the collection of talking heads denigrating the police in Missouri in particular and police in America in general. It got to the point where I figured that CNN must stand for Cops Not Needed. Well, if that is the case the people at CNN should make very good friends with the criminals of this country.

Criminals have a tendency to view people as a collection of steaks walking around that criminals are looking for the opportunity to gobble up. If you attack, denigrate and tear down the guardians of the gates, be careful, the next knock at your door might be the wolf they used to keep at bay.

    A budding hero returns home
Jesse Kroymans just completed the first half of his AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Jackson, S.C. This is part of basic training through the Minnesota National Guard. He will complete the other half next summer as he continues to prepare for his responsibilities in the Minnesota National Guard in the transportation area, his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty).
